InMotion’s Junior Advisory Board Hosts 4th Annual Justice by Chocolate Fundraiser

Our firm is honored to be a Committee Member for the inMotion Junior Advisory Board and to be assisting with the 4th Annual Justice by Chocolate fundraiser! Working in the legal industry we can sometimes forget the system is there to help people and not everyone has access to adequate legal care. Often women in low-income situations, often victims of domestic violence, are challenged with getting the help they need because of the financial challenges. inMotion is a terrific organization which connects women from New York City’s five boroughs with volunteer lawyers to help them secure divorces and protective orders, gain custody of their children, obtain child support and become legal residents. We are more than happy to donate or time to raise awareness about the organization and the upcoming Justice By Chocolate fundraiser event.

The event will be at the rooftop venue Sky Room (330 West 40th Street) on June 21, 7:00 – 9:30 pm. If you would like to attend, tickets are going fast so please click here to purchase. Raffle tickets are also availble and you do not have to attend the event in order to enter the raffle drawing.

If you cannot attend please consider making a donation to inMotion here. Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated by the women and their families.

“A competent lawyer should not be a luxury.”

ANNUAL JUSTICE BY CHOCOLATE FUNDRAISER SET FOR JUNE 21

inMotion’s Junior Advisory Board to raise funds for free legal services for low-income women

NEW YORK, N.Y. – InMotion’s Junior Advisory Board will host their 4th annual chocolate-themed reception and fundraiser, Justice by Chocolate, at the rooftop venue Sky Room (330 West 40th Street) on June 21, 7:00 – 9:30 pm.

Enjoy chocolates by Chocolat Moderne, hors d’oeuvres and cocktails while supporting inMotion’s free legal services for New York City’s disadvantaged women and their families. InMotion’s Junior Advisory Board is made up of young attorneys and other business professionals.

An inMotion pro bono attorney who successfully secured justice for an abused woman and her family will speak – joined by her client – about the case and its lasting impact on their lives. Joan Coukos, a former banker who is the founder/CEO of Chocolat Moderne, also will be on hand to meet guests.

A raffle drawing will be held with prizes including gift cards, gift baskets and jewelry.

InMotion is a nonprofit organization which connects women from New York City’s five boroughs with volunteer lawyers to help them secure divorces and protective orders, gain custody of their children, obtain child support and become legal residents.

“There are thousands of low-income women, often victims of domestic violence, in our City who desperately need legal representation, but they can barely afford the basic necessities. Hiring an attorney is simply not an option,” said Cathy Douglass, inMotion’s Executive Director. “Justice by Chocolate reaches young professionals in our community, raising their awareness of this critical need — and raising funds so we can help more families in crisis.”

Last year, inMotion’s legal volunteers donated over 80,000 hours, providing professional services valued at more than $30 million.

Tickets are $80, in advance, or $90 at the door (if available). Raffle tickets and reception tickets can be purchased online at www.inmotiononline.org.

Justice by Chocolate has been generously underwritten by Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP.
